Membership of the Devonshire Association

Eligibility
Anyone may join the Association – the only requirement is an interest in the county of Devon. It’s not necessary to live in the county: about ten percent of our members live elsewhere.
Joining us
You can now join us by completing an online application form. This is managed by our partner WebCollect* and you can start the process by going to our start page on their website. If you already use WebCollect for your membership of another organisation you just need to sign in, but if you have not used WebCollect before, you will first need to create an account there by filling in the details under “Sign up” on the right of the page. Online you can pay for membership by direct debit, bank transfer or cheque.
Alternatively, you can download a printable copy of the application form here (for payment by cheque only), and the accompanying recruitment brochure here. Or you can ask the Registrar to post you a copy.
Types of membership
Full Members
- Are encouraged to join a local Branch, and any Sections they are interested in
- May attend the Annual Conference and the President’s Symposium
- Will receive a copy of the annual Transactions, the twice-yearly DA News magazine that includes a printed diary of events, and other Association notices
- Have full voting rights and may be elected as an officer or member of any committee, including the Executive Committee.
- Have access to our members-only online discussion forums.
The annual subscription for full membership is £25 (or, if living overseas, £30).
For second or subsequent members living at the same address who are willing to share printed material, the annual rate is £13.
Associates
Associates have the same benefits as full members, except they:
- Do not receive a copy of the Transactions
- Are not entitled to vote at the AGM
- Cannot become members of the Executive Committee.
Otherwise they play a full part in the life of the Association, especially in the Branches and Sections where they have full voting rights and may become officers.
The annual subscription for associate membership is £15.
Life Members
The current rate for life membership is £500.
Student Members
Student members have the same benefits as full members for the reduced rate of £15. They must be engaged in a full-time course and must provide a statement of the nature and duration of their course signed by a supervisor.
Institutional Members
An institutional member is a library, educational body, institution, society or other corporate body. An institutional member may nominate a representative to exercise the rights and privileges of a full member.
The institutional member rate is £30 per annum, or £40 for institutions based overseas. Please contact the Registrar for details.
Since 2019 all new subscriptions become due for renewal annually on the anniversary of joining. Our preferred method of payment is online Direct Debit because it helps keep our administrative costs down, but if you wish to pay by cheque it should be made payable to “The Devonshire Association”.
We are very grateful to members who are able to complete a Declaration of Gift Aid.
The Association is largely financed by its modest subscriptions, returns on investments, and legacies. However, these sources do not cover all costs and it is often necessary to charge for events and refreshments. Non-members are welcome at most of our events, space permitting, but will be asked to pay higher charges.
Managing your membership online
Existing members can manage their subscriptions online via our partner WebCollect* if they wish. Our start page on their website is here.
