Could you be the next Honorary Secretary?


The Association is seeking a new Hon. Secretary to start in June 2019. The role provides a significant opportunity to influence the course of the Association at a time of rapid external change. The Secretary is, together with the rest of the Executive Committee, a Trustee of the Association. As an Officer, the position is subject to annual election at the Annual General Meeting.

The Association is committed to succession planning and, subject to annual election, the individual may choose to specify a maximum period which they wish to serve. The Association has modernised its governance over the last few years, considerably enhancing the role of the Registrar to undertake all the routine administration and devolving the organisation of the Annual Conference and management of the website to other members of the Executive Committee. Now, the prime responsibility of the Hon. Secretary is to be the line manager for the Registrar. Other duties include maintaining the Association’s Three Year Plan and suite of policies; liaising with the President in respect of their year of office; making arrangements for the Annual General Meeting and the twice yearly Forums; preparing agendas for the eight Executive Committee meetings, and the Away-day, held each year; and providing advice and support to the Chairman.

The Secretary provides a report on our Annual Conference in the Transactions and is the prime contact for the Charity Commission, responsible for keeping our records with the Commission up to date. Minutes of Executive Committee meetings are taken by the Registrar.

The activities set out above can be readily fitted around other demands, and rarely need to be undertaken at short notice.
