Torridge Bridges and SS Freshspring (IA Section & Bideford Branch)
Tue. 26 March 2019 at 10:30 am
£3 – £5
Event Navigation
A talk by Professor Bill Harvey, who is a world expert on masonry arch and tunnel behaviour and the author of a widely-used software package for the analytical assessment of arch bridges and viaducts.
Followed at 2pm by a visit to SS Freshspring, now moored on the quayside at Bideford, at the invitation of the Steamship Freshspring Society. The Freshspring is the only surviving ship of the Fresh class – Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels from WWII. Substantially intact from the time she was built and exclusively steam-powered, she is typical of the small coasting steamers that served the nation for over 100 years. A unique example of a 19-20th century British cargo ship, she is listed on the National Register of Historic Vessels.
£3.00 for DA members, £5.00 for non-members.
This is a joint meeting between the Industrial Archaeology Section and the Bideford Branch.
Spaces are limited, please book via the appropriate organiser, as below.
