Tue. 20 September 2022
£3 – £8
Event Navigation
A day trip to Okehampton and the Museum of Dartmoor Life, travelling by train along the recently re-opened railway line from Exeter.
Due to a rail strike on 15 September – the original date planned for this event, we will be holding it on Tuesday 20 September instead.
We will meet at Exeter St Davids Station for the 10:37 train to Okehampton. Many of the attendees will be travelling to Exeter by train too – everyone will be responsible for paying all their own train fares. Railway enthusiast Tony Hill will join us on the Okehampton train and he will be pointing out features of interest during the journey. On arrival at Okehampton, Tony will open the railway museum on the platform for those who wish to see the exhibits.
Okehampton station is up a steep hill from the town and the two-hourly bus leaves the station at 11:30. The bus to the town centre takes just five minutes, but if you stay to see the railway museum, or prefer to walk, it will take about 15 minutes, but much of the walk is through the attractive Simmons Park.
We will re-convene at the Museum of Dartmoor Life in the town centre at 12:30. Lunch can be taken at a place of your choice, and we will provide printed guides for the exploration of the town’s many interesting features in ad-hoc groups in the afternoon.
Timetables of the Okehampton buses and trains can be seen via the Dartmoorline website.
For DA members, the cost is £6 to include group entry to the town museum. Non-members are welcome to join us if there is space, for £8. If you do not wish to include the museum entry the cost is £3/£5.
Booking is essential via the organiser (details below) and the limited number of places will be preferentially allocated to Branch members. Full details will be provided to those booking.
