AGM 2021 (IA Section)

Sat. 13 February 2021 at 11:00 am

Free

To be held by Zoom video conferencing

The Section Annual General Meeting.

Followed at 11.15 by a talk “Farming: the solution is within our grasp. So, why does it keep slipping through our fingers?” by Dr Robin Jackson.

Agriculture is an essential industry and has shaped our landscape and environment.  Recent stresses – the pandemic, Brexit, the climate and ecological emergencies – have highlighted the need for change; one where agriculture could be part of the solution.  This talk will provide an overview of a complex industry, the mistakes we have made, and the opportunities (and challenges) that lie ahead.

Dr Jackson is Director of the Rural Business School at Duchy College overseeing a specialist team that delivers research, consultancy, and knowledge transfer; notably, the Farm Business Survey for the SW of England, the Agri-tech Cornwall Project, and the Challenge of Rural Leadership.  Before that, he was Chief Executive Officer of Peninsula Innovations Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Exeter, which he created as a self-sustaining vehicle for regional economic development and education.
