Gossamer Engineering – why insect wings are amazing
Insect wings are extraordinary examples of microengineering, with many unique and sometimes surprising properties. Robin, and a succession of his postgraduate students including the Section’s chair, Clive Betts, have investigated these over many years, and a new generation of engineers is now exploring their potential applications in developing small drones, lightweight deployable structures, and even new materials.
Tea and biscuits. There is ample free parking behind the church.
