AGM 2026 and talk by Rick Stewart (IA Section)
Sat. 21 February 2026 at 11:00 am
Free
The Section Annual General Meeting starts at 11am, coffee available from 10.30am.
To be followed by a talk “Arsenic Production in Devon & Cornwall” by Rick Stewart. Devon and Cornwall mines were major global centres for arsenic production, especially in the late 19th century, primarily as a valuable by-product from processing tin and copper ores, with sites like Devon Great Consols becoming the world’s largest producer, extracting it from arsenopyrite minerals using furnaces and long flue systems to capture the toxic vapours. Massive operations made them world leaders in arsenic production, but, unintentionally, have left a lasting environmental mark.
Rick Stewart is a mining historian, former manager of the Morwellham Quay Mine and currently chair of the Goonvean Engine Trust.
Open to DA and non-DA members, though only DA members are eligible to vote in the AGM.
There is no entrance fee and no registration is required.
For lunch after the meeting, reservations can be made at the Exe Valley Farm Shop 01392 861403
