Dawlish Warren (Botany Section)
Sat. 29 June 2019 at 11:00 am
It’s been some time since the Section last visited this wonderful site. There are regular buses as well as the train to Dawlish Warren station. Meet at the far end of the carpark under the railway line at c. SX981787, it is pay and display.
There will be a slow walk to the visitor centre before exploring the Warren. As well as Ophioglossum vulgatum Adder’s-tongue, the Warren is the first of two mainland Devon populations of Ophioglossum azoricum Small Adder’s-tongue, the other being the recent DA find on western Dartmoor. Both will be visible. The Warren has a varying environment in a very small area from the foredune to the central lake and scrub, with bare ground and wet slacks.
NON-MEMBERS WELCOME. Bring packed lunch and appropriate footwear. Please contact the leader if you wish to attend – meeting details can sometimes change at short notice and if the weather forecast looks poor the meeting may have to be cancelled. You should also check with the leader if you wish to bring your dog.
