Divertimento Duo (Music Section)

Fri. 23 September 2022 at 7:30 pm

£6 – £13

Divertimento Duo – A Musical Duologue with Andrew Gillett and Lindsay Braga at Ashburton Arts Centre.

This is a rare chance for music lovers to get up close and personal with two stars of the classical music scene. The event title “A Musical Duologue” reflects the style and nature of the evening. Lindsay Braga (violin/piano) and Andrew Gillett (violin/viola/piano) of the string quartet Divertimento will take us behind the scenes of their music. They will present duets by Bach, Mozart, Martinu, Brydern and others to show how the duet forms the basis of dialogue and interaction in chamber music, and they will talk about their approach and the things they consider when preparing a piece for performance.

Lindsay and Andrew are highly talented professional musicians, much in demand for both orchestral and chamber music performances.

  • Lindsay Braga studied the violin at the Royal Northern College of Music with Richard Deakin and Wen Zu Li and has worked since with many orchestras including the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Welsh National Opera, English National Ballet, the Goldberg Ensemble and Manchester Camerata. Since her move to Devon Lindsay has become highly sought after in the county for both orchestral and chamber music playing. She is a member of the Ten Tors Orchestra and The Divertimento Ensemble.
  • Andrew Gillett’s  early studies were with Colin Sauer (violin) and Keith Lovell (viola) of the Dartington String Quartet. He went on to study viola at the Royal College of Music and the Hochschule für Musik in Frankfurt, Germany. He is the principal viola in the Ten Tors Orchestra and the Divertimento Ensemble. Highly in demand as a freelance chamber and orchestral musician his musical interests are diverse – baroque, contemporary and all things in between; he is sometimes to be found at ceilidhs, playing the fiddle long into the night.
