Exeter: A Place in Time – Roman and Medieval Exeter in its Hinterland
A Zoom presentation by Stephen Rippon, Professor of Landscape Archaeology at the University of Exeter
Exeter has a long history of archaeological excavation and research, but much of this was, until recently, unpublished. The Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM) has meanwhile been carefully curating a vast collection of artefacts from these excavations, but in many cases it has been several decades since they have been subject to detailed analysis. The Exeter: A Place in Time Project was a collaboration between the University of Exeter, Cotswold Archaeology, RAMM, Exeter City Council and Historic England. The project involved analyzing many of these artefacts, as well as seeing four of the key archaeological excavations through to full publication.
This talk will outline the results of the project and explore the development of Exeter from Roman through to medieval times and its relationship with the wider South West.
Booking is essential.
