Exeter Cathedral stained glass windows (Exeter Branch)

A talk by Dr Stuart Bird.

Dr Bird is an authority on the stained and painted glass windows of Exeter Cathedral which are documented in the Cathedral Archives. Through expert insight, he will uncover the artistry, historical evolution, and symbolic significance of the cathedral’s glazing – from medieval fragments to later restorations – illuminating how glass has shaped both devotional aesthetics and architectural identity. To avoid the potential devastation of WW2, important medieval glass was removed for safekeeping. He has also published a small guide book on the subject (2021) containing a useful index and floor plan. It is copiously illustrated and incorporates stunning photographs by William Finnigan.
