Field trip to Meldon Reservoir (Botany Section)
Sat. 5 July 2025 at 11:00 am
Event Navigation
Meldon Reservoir is on the NW edge of Dartmoor. The area’s particularly diverse range of moorland edge habitats is reflected in a combined total of 328 species that have been recorded from monads SX5691 and SX5692. With only around two thirds of the species known from SX5692 having been recorded since 2005, there is plenty of scope for re-finding some of these ‘missing’ taxa.
Meet in Meldon Reservoir car-park at SX 5614 9179 (W3W: ///variety.saved.himself). See here for a map. This is down a series of narrow lanes, but well signposted with brown tourist signs. Paths are uneven and steep in places so come equipped with suitable footwear.
At the time of writing, the car-parking charge would be £5.30 to cover the duration of the meeting. Current charges can be found at https://www.dartmoor.gov.uk/enjoy-dartmoor/planning-your-visit/car-parks.
Leader: Bob Kirby.
Meetings are from 11.00 a.m. to approximately 4.00 p.m. unless otherwise stated.
Non-members are welcome. Bring packed lunch, appropriate footwear and clothing, as well as sufficient water, sun-block, insect repellent or other essentials required for a day outdoors. Please contact the leader if you wish to attend – meeting details can sometimes change at short notice and if the weather forecast looks poor the meeting may have to be cancelled. You should also check with the leader if you wish to bring your dog.
