Field trip to Plymouth Hoe (Botany Section)

Sun. 23 June 2024 at 10:30 am

A walk along Plymouth Hoe looking at some of the interesting species that grow there, including Plymouth Thistle (Carduus pycnocephalus), Sea Spleenwort (Asplenium marinum) and Wild Clary (Salvia verbenaca). We may pay a brief visit to Milbay in the afternoon to see Compact Brome (Bromus madritensis) should anyone want to see it. We should finish mid-afternoon at the latest.

Meet by the Hoe Cannons, next to Duttons Café (SX48275365, ///actor.erase.stiff) Note the earlier start time. There are public toilets in the city centre, along with plenty of cafes. There are also a couple places on the Hoe itself where you can get a drink and a light snack.

Botany Section meetings are from 11.00 a.m. to approximately 4.00 p.m., unless otherwise stated. Bring packed lunch, appropriate footwear and clothing, as well as sufficient water, sun-block, insect repellent or other essentials required for a day outdoors. Please contact the leader if you wish to attend – meeting details can sometimes change at short notice and if the weather forecast looks poor the meeting may have to be cancelled. You should also check with the leader if you wish to bring your dog.

Non members are welcome.
