“Some of Devon’s oldest and youngest geology”
Led by Jenny Bennett with John Mather.
Prawle Point is the southernmost peninsula of South Devon, a classic site for the study of raised beaches and coastal periglacial mass movement that show Quaternary climate oscillations. It’s an ideal location for the study of active bedrock weathering, and there are also excellent exposures of the highly deformed and metamorphosed oceanic basalts of the Devonian Start Complex (around 400 million years old).
We’ll meet near East Prawle and be out for the day. There will be around 5 km walking on coastal path plus rocky beach.
Contact the organiser (details below) for further details and booking. Please give contact details (phone number, etc) when booking in case of cancellations or changes.
Cost: £3 for DA members, £5 non-members.
