Event Navigation
A guided tour of Westonzoyland Pumping Station Museum (starting in the museum café).
The Easton & Amos drainage machine, dating from 1861, will be in steam. In its building of 1831, it was part of Somerset’s first land drainage pumping station and is now part of a museum of steam power and associated engineering. It includes a narrow-gauge railway and working steam engines. The museum lies on a bank adjacent to the River Parrett and originally housed a beam engine and scoop wheel pump designed by James Easton of Taunton.
The Museum is open from 11 am to 4 pm, and members are welcome to explore the rest of the site before and after the tour. The museum has a free online “pocket guide” with description and a map of the site here. The museum home page at www.wzlet.org is also very informative, as is the flyer advertising the Steam Up here.
Those seeking lunch before 2 pm may wish to consider The King Alfred at Burrowbridge, 07717 170037 or the Sedgemoor Inn at Westonzoyland, 01278 691382, both serving lunches from 12 midday.
No registration is required. The entrance fee to the museum is £12, but there will be no meeting fees.
