Haytor Quarries and Granite Railway (IA Section)

17 May 2018 at 10:30 am

£3 - £5

A 3 hour walk to be led by Peter Stanier. The tour includes visits to Haytor and Holwell Quarries, and will follow the granite tramway to the furthest, small quarry workings.

Meet at the car park next to the Haytor National Park Visitor Centre (& toilets) on the B 3387 Bovey Tracey to Widecombe road (Grid ref. SX 765 772).

Booking is not necessary. DA members £3. Non-members £5.

Those not bringing their own lunches may wish to dine at the nearby Tinpickle and Rhum Café (part of the Moorland Hotel), where the staff have been alerted to the arrival of a Devonshire Association party. If you intend to lunch there, please help them with numbers by telephoning them at 01364 661 407, mentioning The Devonshire Association, and an anticipated lunch time of 1.30 pm.

Participants should be fit and able to walk 3 miles of moorland, sometimes with rough vegetation and with some steps through occasional rocky bits. Stout footwear is recommended.

Some photos taken by Mike Stannard on the walk. Conditions of reuse are here.
