A lecture by Dr Richard Porter, the Geology Section Chairman, who has visited the Hawaiian Islands twice over the last two years.
As a professional geologist this was an exciting opportunity to examine active volcanoes on the big Island of Hawaii as well as other dormant and extinct volcanoes on two other of the Hawaiian Islands.
Richard describes himself as a geologist with interests in all aspects of geology and he takes an overview of the geology and how it has influenced not only the islands current landscapes, but also how it also influences other aspects of the islands, such as the famous surfing waves and the wildlife, as well as how the geology has influenced the life styles of the population, as well as the many engineering problems that the population have had to overcome.
