Lie of the Land: using digital mapping techniques to interpret the landscape.

A Zoom talk by Dr Martin Whiteley.

Geologists working in the eastern counties of England are used to geological mapping that is based on isolated outcrops of bedrock, linked by very low regional dips and layer-cake stratigraphy. In recent years we have been looking at the area more closely to understand better the relationship between landscapes, geology and soils. We are finding that GIS (Geographic Information System) software provides a powerful means of combining various datasets to breathe new life into landscape interpretation in this part of the country.
