New Year Gathering 2026 (Exeter Branch)

Exeter Branch New Year Gathering – Buffet and Talk

Folklore of Devon by Mark Norman

This year’s New Year Gathering will again be held at the Cowick Barton public house. The speaker is the Devonshire Association’s Recorder of Devon Folklore, Mark Norman, whose recent book The Folklore of Devon offers a richly detailed exploration of the county’s unique mythologies, customs, and oral traditions, rooted in their rural landscapes and seafaring heritage. Drawing from archival sources and local accounts, he examines legends, superstitions, seasonal festivals, and the enduring presence of pixies and witchcraft in Devonian culture.

The cost per person is £21 and there is a cash bar. Booking is essential. Please note that there is no wheelchair access to the meeting room.
