New Year Gathering (Exeter Branch)
Wed. 18 January 2023 at 7:00 pm
£16
This year our New Year Gathering will be held at the Cowick Barton, one of Exeter’s oldest pubs whose site can be traced back to the 12th century.
A ‘Country Man’s’ buffet will be preceded by a 60-minute illustrated talk by well-known West Country artist Ray Balkwill SWAc, entitled The River’s Voice. He was born in Exeter, graduated from Exeter College of Art, and now resides in Exmouth. After a period as an advertising art director, he became a full-time professional artist using watercolours, oil and mixed media. He strongly advocates painting en plein air and specialises in capturing the fickle moods of sea, sky and estuaries. Ray has been involved in numerous exhibitions, regularly contributes to magazines and has published seven books. A much sought-after teacher, he has recently been filmed helping Michael Portillo to create a small picture which was shown in an episode of Portillo’s ‘Great British Railway Journeys’ television series
The cost per person is £16 and there will be a cash bar.
Please note that the room in which the talk will be given does not have wheelchair access.
Booking is essential.
