New Year Plant Hunt 1 (Botany Section)
Sun. 31 December 2023 at 10:00 am
New Year Plant Hunt at Mount Batten, Plymouth.
The Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland hold a New Year Plant Hunt every year in the last few days of December and the first few of January. The objective is to record species of plant in flower over a period of not more than three hours. The data is used to help assess the effects of climate change on our flora, and there’s also a small element of competition as groups see just how many flowering plants they can find.
Meet by the RAF Mount Batten Memorial at SX48555330. There is a regular ferry across from the Barbican, weather permitting.
Please contact the leader if you would like to attend as the date may change according to the weather – if bad the meeting may be postponed.

Bob Kirby is going to lead another New Year Plant Hunt between 30th December and 2nd January in North Devon. The location is to be decided, but most likely Great Torrington, although Instow and Bideford are alternative possibilities. Start time is expected to be 12:30.
