Thu. 14 November 2019 at 11:30 am
£3 – £5
Meet at the Museum of Barnstaple & North Devon (N end of Long Bridge).
Alison Mills, the Museum director, will talk about the history and production of Shapland and Petter (established 1850s). Best known now for its widely collected Arts & Crafts-related furniture, the company was once one of Barnstaple’s biggest employers and produced everything from ammunition boxes to aeroplane propellers.
At 2pm, after a break for lunch (the museum has a café), Alison will show us the Shapland and Petter collection in the museum, which has recently re-opened after a major extension.
There are numerous car parks among the department stores and supermarkets on the opposite side of the River Taw from the museum across Long Bridge on the railway station (SW) side of town.
Registration is required.
Cost: £3 for DA members and £5 for non-members.
