A talk “Soil: A Cornerstone of Life” to be given by Dr Kate Schofield in partnership with the Sidmouth Science Festival.
Dr Schofield is a biogeochemist and soil scientist at the University of Plymouth, where she studies ways to sustainably improve the health of our natural soils and to create other soils using waste materials.
Did you know that one teaspoon of soil contains more microorganisms than there are people on Earth? Although often dismissed as just dirt or mud, soils are vital to our lives, directly affecting the food we eat, the clothes we wear and the fuels we burn. We would be lost without them.
In this talk, Kate will introduce you to the extraordinary world of soils and highlight some of the most pressing issues facing soil health. She will discuss some of the steps that are being taken today to tackle these issues.
This is a joint meeting with Sidmouth Science Festival and DA members and non-members are welcome to attend. £2 for members and non-members, payable at the door.
