A talk “The Axminster Heritage Centre” by Nigel Sadler.
How Axminster Heritage Centre started and what had to be done to get it to the grand reopening on April 6th this year.
Nigel Sadler qualified as an Archaeologist and worked as a field archaeologist for two years in the Near East and two years in the UK. He gained a masters degree in Museum Studies and since 1991 has been involved in the museum sector, running museums in London (1992-1999) and the Caribbean (2000-2006) and then running his own consultancy since 2007. He has also worked as a Museum Development Officer in London and for a year as one of the gallery leads for ‘The Box’ development in Plymouth.
Since 2001 a lot of the work he has done has revolved around researching the Transatlantic Slave Trade leading to academic articles as well as the following publications ‘The Slave Trade’ and last year ‘The Legacy of Slavery in Britain’. Since 2012 he has also published a wide range of titles which has included Ottery St Mary Through Time, Ottery St Mary Heritage Walk, British Piers, Museums in Britain, First World War Postcards, The British West Indies in postcards and Erotic Postcards. He became the Manager at Axminster Heritage Centre in 2018 to lead the gallery development for the exhibition area.
