The Battle of Britain over Devon (Axe Valley Branch)
Wed. 18 March 2020 at 2:30 pm
£1 – £3
A talk “The Battle of Britain over Devon, 1940” by John Smith.
This talk explains the story of the Battle in a Devon context. At the time of Dunkirk, Devon did not have any RAF Fighter aircraft, only one Radar station and no Observer Corps posts. All of this changed in June and July 1940. The aerial actions over Devon were different to the better known actions that took place over South-East England. The talk includes audience participation when the aerial tactics are described.
John spoke to our branch last year about the Roman Army which is his main area of study, but he has also studied the Battle of Britain because of the experiences of his family members in London and Newcastle.
Entrance: Donation £1 (DA Members), £3 (Non Members).
