The Minerals of the Virtuous Lady Copper Mine

The Minerals of the Virtuous Lady Copper Mine, Buckland Monachorum, Devon

An online Zoom lecture by Barry Pitt.

Following on from the Cornwall and West Devon UNESCO World Heritage Site Discovery Days organised by the DA last year, this talk looks at the minerals to be found in the disused Virtuous Lady Mine, which is situated on the banks of the River Tavy in the parish of Buckland Monachorum (admittedly just outside of the WHS!) and which has produced many classic specimens of British mineralogy.

Barry has been collecting minerals for nearly 40 years and has been a regular visitor to the Virtuous Lady Mine for the last 20 years. He is a member of the Southampton Mineral and Fossil Society (for which he is also the field trip organiser), the Russell Society and the Sussex Mineral Society. He gives talks on a variety of mineral-related topics, has had an article published on the South Caradon Mine (Liskeard, Cornwall) and has an article pending publication on the Virtuous Lady Mine in the Russell Society Journal.
