The Pinwill Sisters and the Restoration of Lew Trenchard Church (Buildings Section)

Tue. 24 September 2024 at 2:00 pm

As part of a series of events to celebrate the life of Sabine Baring-Gould (28 Jan 1834 – 2 Jan 1924) in the centenary year of his death, the Buildings Section will be hosting an afternoon at Lew Trenchard Church, when Dr Helen Wilson will present on its restoration, carried out between 1877 and 1915. A significant part of that restoration was the installation of a new rood screen based on the original one swept away in 1832, together with an elaborately carved pulpit based on the C15 one at Kenton. This work was carried out by the Pinwill sisters of Plymouth and Ermington from 1899.

The afternoon will also include visits to the Baring-Gould graves, the Forgotten Garden and the Holy Well.

£5.00 on the door. All welcome. No booking required.
