The Pinwill Sisters at Sheepstor and Yelverton Churches (external event)

For about ten years Dr Helen Wilson (of the DA’s Buildings Section) has studied and researched the exquisite carvings created by the Pinwill sisters and has agreed to provide a visit to two beautiful Dartmoor churches to give an insight into the life and work of the Pinwill sisters.
2:00pm – Arrive at Sheepstor Church SX 560 676. Tea and biscuits provided on arrival followed by a short talk from the church warden on the history of the church.
2:30pm – Talk by Helen Wilson on the Pinwill woodcarving business and their work at Sheepstor.
3:30pm – Arrive at Yelverton Church SX 522 679. We will enjoy a talk by Helen on the church and the Pinwill carving work there.
4:00pm – An optional climb up the church tower with the church warden to see the extensive views over Dartmoor.

Prior booking is essential by Tuesday 11 June. Cost is £5.00 per head, payable in advance, and includes tea and biscuits at Sheepstor Church. DA members should download and print the booking form available on The Dartmoor Society’s website and send it to: The Dartmoor Society, PO Box 570, Torquay TQ1 9JB with a cheque for £5 made payable to ‘The Dartmoor Society’.
