The Roman Army in Devon, Finds, Fact & Fiction (Axe Valley Branch)
Wed. 17 October 2018 at 2:30 pm
£1 – £3
The talk, by John Smith*, is delivered as a “Living History” presentation using nearly two sets of Roman Soldier’s equipment, largely copied from artefacts found in Southern England. The talk explains why the Roman Army came to Devon, where it built its known fortresses and forts, and the life of a Roman soldier and his equipment is explained from helmet down to boots. The “Hollywood” myths fiction element about the Roman Army is dispelled. There are several Roman military sites in East Devon.
Entrance donation £1.00 for DA members and £3.00 for non-members.
