Why do we speak English? The people of Devon spoke Cornish for over 1,000 years – until the Saxons arrived. But how did the transition happen? Dr Wyn Cudlip will present the results of his investigation into the settlement of Devon by fierce Germanic farmer-warriors who were able to create a new form of society in a way the Romans failed to do.
