The secret life of Caroline Hart (Lit & Art Section)

Sat. 22 March 2025 at 2:30 pm

£3 – £5

A talk by Nick Arnold.

In the 1900’s the world’s best-selling author (sometimes published in the USA under the pen-name Caroline Hart) was a town councillor in Devon named Charles Garvice.  This talk tells the surprising and often funny story of the most famous writer you have never heard of.

Nick Arnold is a historian and writer based in North Devon.  He is also an award-winning author of the internationally acclaimed Horrible Science series of books.  Nick was the founder of the Appledore Book Festival in 2006 and served as its Director until 2011.  The book festival is now one of the southwest’s major cultural annual events.  Nick is a member of The Devonshire Association and delivered our public lecture at the Bideford AGM in 2022.
