A talk entitled “Torrington through Time and the ‘Town that Burned Twice’” to be given by Emily Wapshott, a Torrington based commercial archaeologist specialising in historic building assessment, research, a founder member of ArchaeologistsEngage.org.
Is there really nothing left? The long protracted decline of a medieval powerhouse; how Great Torrington became North Devon’s unwilling hidden gem and how to reinvigorate a forgotten heritage resource. A new heritage-tourism focussed policy for the town; the heritage trail and Dig the Castle project and a ‘call to arms’.
The talk is planned to be held in the Kingsley Room at the Burton, but may be held by Zoom if restrictions are imposed. Any changes will be posted here.
Please note that a contribution presently £1 (DA members) £3 (non-members) is requested by all attending to help cover costs. For the time being, there will be no costs for joining ‘Zoom’ meetings.
