Upper Plym Valley Field Trip (IA Section)

Thu. 16 June 2022 at 10:30 am

£3 – £5

Ernie Hoblyn will lead a walking tour of Dewerstone quarries, Tavistock and South Devon Railway link, Shaugh Bridge brickworks, and Neomi iron mine. We will follow the route of the tramway to the Dewerstone granite quarries, which includes a fairly steep walk up the incline.   Also a look at the brick tunnel kiln and the Noemie ironstone mine, with adits and wheel pit.

Although we are walking on pathways or former rail track beds, they are very uneven and stout shoes or boots are recommended.

There are no toilets on the walk. Obedient dogs acceptable.

Meet at Shaugh Bridge free car park (National Trust). Grid Reference 534638, (marked with a blue highlighted ‘P’ on OS map)

Registration is required – contact the organiser (details below)

Cost: DA members £3, non-members £5.

For lunch afterwards, we suggest the The White Thorn Inn at Shaugh Prior (Post Code PL7 5HA), Telephone 01752 839245. Total numbers interested in lunch will be confirmed at the beginning of the walk.
