Urban botany in Plymouth (Botany Section)
Sun. 5 July 2026 at 11:00 am
Event Navigation
A walk from Devonport through Mount Wise to Stonehouse. As well as a good variety of urban plants, we should also encounter Spiny Restharrow (Ononis spinosa), Yellow-wort (Blackstonia perfoliate) and Hawkweed Oxtongue (Picris hieracioides).
Meet at the Cumberland Gardens bus stop by the junction with George Street (SX45595448 ///crab.spent.wash). There are frequent No. 21 buses to and from the city centre. Although away from the busier parts of the city, be on the lookout for cars, pedestrians and dogs. There are toilets at Mount Wise and along Richmond Walk.
Botany Section events are from 11.00 a.m. to approximately 4.00 p.m., unless otherwise stated. Bring packed lunch, appropriate footwear and clothing, as well as sufficient water, sun-block, insect repellent or other essentials required for a day outdoors. Please contact the leader if you wish to attend – meeting details can sometimes change at short notice and if the weather forecast looks poor the meeting may have to be cancelled. You should also check with the leader if you wish to bring your dog.
Our meetings are free to Devonshire Association members. Non-members are very welcome to join us, but we would suggest a donation of £3 to £5 (in cash please) to help support our work.
