Visit to Beer Quarry Caves (E Devon Branch)

Wed. 12 July 2023 at 2:00 pm

£14

A visit to Beer Quarry Caves followed by a cream tea.

The visit will start at the reception centre where we will be given a safety briefing and equipped with hard hats. We will then be guided into the caves where we will be shown examples of carvings and be conducted around an area of the cave system. The tour will last approximately one hour. A cream tea is included in the charge.

Please contact the organiser (details below) for more information or to make a booking.

The visit is a follow up to the tour of Colyton last year where we observed frequent examples of Beer Stone buildings and carvings. Beer freestone is a chalk limestone laid down in the Cretaceous age (65–140 million years ago).

Note that the temperature in the caves varies between 7 and 9 degrees Centigrade. It is advisable to wear warm clothing and stout footwear.
