Visit to Cuxton Farm (Tavistock Branch)
Fri. 27 June 2025 at 6:30 pm
£10
Cuxton Farmhouse was probably built in the early 1600s and was then remodelled in 1693. The importance of this house lies not only in the good quality internal features and very unaltered facade of 1693 but in its significance as a farmhouse reflecting vernacular architecture in Devon at that time.
The visit has been arranged to fit in with the workings of a busy modern farm, hence the meeting time is 6:30pm with parking in farmyard or top road (PL20 7NF). There will be a tour of the farm buildings including a view of the ‘Lely Astronaut Robotic Milker’ and the automatic feeding machine for the new calves. The cows come for milking when they choose, they are not herded and the whole process is mechanised.
The present owners will present the history of the farm, and this will be followed by an “evening Cream Tea”. The visit is expected to last about two hours.
Booking in advance is required and the cost of the visit will be £10 per person. Contact the Organiser (details below) for details. Non-members are welcome.
Note that numbers are limited so early booking is advised, and car sharing is recommended.
