Visit to Dartmouth Castle and Blackpool Sands (Geology Section)

Thu. 14 July 2022 at 10:00 am

This field trip has been organised by Richard Porter and Tim Freeman.

After meeting at a location close to Dartmouth Castle, we will walk around the coast path to location 1 which is close to Sugary Cove, a distance of about a mile. The route is quite steep in places and the terrain is typical coast path. Here we will look at the junction of two rock types in the cliffs and in the islands nearby.

After returning we will proceed by cars to Blackpool Sands where we will have lunch and will walk across 300 yards of shingle to a location at the north end of the beach where there are three rock types whose position has helped to shape the bay.

There are toilets at Dartmouth Castle and at Blackpool Sands.

Bring lunch (or buy at the Venus Café), good walking shoes, sunhat, waterproof etc. Personal choice regarding hard hats and high viz tops.

To reserve a place please contact the organiser. Note that your email address will be shared with Richard Porter.
