Visit to Exeter New Deanery (Buildings Section)

Thu. 11 July 2024 at 2:00 pm

A visit to the New Deanery with the Very Revd Jonathan Greener and his wife Pamela. This building has always belonged to the Cathedral and dates from the 14th century, with considerable alterations made in the 16th to 19th centuries. It is best known for its 17th-century studded oak door, shared with No 11 The Close, which leads to a beautiful medieval courtyard. The interior contains many interesting rooms with noteworthy ceilings and a small medieval chapel.

Meet at the New Deanery outside Nos. 10-11 The Close. The group will be divided into two with one group having afternoon tea first. The tour will take about 1.5 hours.

Accessibility: There are steps, but no lift. Toilets are available.

Directions: Postcode EX1 1EZ. It is opposite the North door of the Cathedral, just down from the Devon and Exeter Institute. We recommend that you use Park and Ride for the city centre.

Cost of the event is £20 to include the afternoon tea. Booking closes on 6 July.

Priority is given to members of the Buildings Section, who have been sent a booking form. If you are not a member but would like to attend, please contact the organiser (details below) to see if any spaces are available.

The event is now fully booked – contact the Organiser to be added to a waiting list.
