Visit to Fursdon (S Devon Branch)

Tue. 15 May 2018 at 2:30 pm

£10

A visit to Fursdon, the ancestral home of David Fursdon, Lord Lieutenant of Devon and 2017-18 President of the Devonshire Association.

Fursdon is above the west bank of the River Exe, about half way between Exeter and Tiverton. A tour of the house and gardens will be followed by a cream tea.

Short report

Although we visited Fursdon on a warm sunny late spring afternoon, its remoteness meant that was easy to understand how it got completely cut off during this year’s March snowfalls! A personal tour round the house learning about its fascinating history was followed firstly by a very generous cream tea in the garden, and then a walk around the cultivated gardens and the wider grounds including the beautiful small lake.

We spent a most entertaining and educational afternoon in this history-filled corner of rural Devon and we thank David and Catriona Fursdon for letting us arrange this special visit.
