Visit to Princetown (S Devon Branch)

Thu. 18 May 2023 at 10:30 am

£10 – £12

Local expert Pip Barker will lead us on a day’s visit to see many of the interesting features of this moorland village. We will start at 10:30 am at the main car-park (£3 for 3 hours, £5 all day). In the morning we will view the new distillery building and possibly the site of the old railway station before visiting St Michael’s church and its graveyard.

After a break for lunch (cafe, pub or picnic) we will reconvene at 2 pm in the prison museum car-park (free, only if visiting the museum/cemeteries) for a guided walk around the prison walls to visit the American and French war prisoners’ cemeteries which are on prison land and can only be visited with an authorised guide. The day will end with a visit to the fascinating prison museum.

The cost, which includes entry fees to the museum and cemeteries, will be £10 for DA members, £12 for non-members. Extra donations for St Michael’s church will be welcomed.

Although we will be walking on pavements and made-up paths, you should wear footwear and clothing appropriate to the vagaries of the weather in the middle of Dartmoor!
