Visit to Salcombe Museum and guided walk (History Section)

Wed. 18 October 2023 at 1:30 pm

£6

An afternoon visit to Salcombe Museum and a guided walk including a visit to the Lifeboat Museum. Our guide will be Roger Barrett who was the recipient of the Devon History Society’s prestigious W.G. Hoskins Prize in 2018 for his book Salcombe: Schooner Port.

Salcombe Maritime Museum contains a treasure trove of models, paintings, photographs and artefacts which tell the story of Salcombe’s links with ships and the sea from ancient times to the Second World War. The museum has a unique gallery of paintings depicting the famed racing fruit schooners built in Salcombe during the 19th century. Sea-bed treasures recovered by divers from the hundreds of shipwrecks that line our coast are a highlight of the visit.

Limited to 20 attendees (DA members only). Booking is essential: £6 per person, payable in advance by bank transfer – details will be given when bookings are confirmed. Please book before 13th October by contacting the organiser, details below, before Friday 13 October. If emailing please put “DA History visit” in the Subject line.

Parking in Salcombe can be difficult, so car sharing is recommended.
