Visit to St Michael and All Angels, Heavitree (Buildings Section)

Fri. 8 November 2024 at 1:30 pm

A visit to the church of St Michael and All Angels, Heavitree, Exeter.

St Michael’s is a magnificent example of a Gothic Revival church built by the noted local architect David Mackintosh with a landmark tower by E. H. Harbottle. Its grade II* listing reflects the retention of late medieval nave piers and a stunning reredos by Sir George Gilbert Scott, originally sited in the Cathedral.

There will be a presentation by Dr Bridget Gillard on ‘The History of St Michael’s Church in ten Objects’, followed by master glazier and stained-glass artist, Andrew Johnson, on the stained glass windows. Ending with a cream tea.

Cost is £10 including the cream tea.

Places at many of the Buildings Section events are limited due to the nature of the properties visited. Members of the Section have priority and have been sent details and booking forms. If you are not a member but would like to attend, please contact the Events Secretary – details under ‘Organiser’ below.
