Visit to Tor Royal Farm, Princetown (Tavistock Branch)
Wed. 5 June 2024 at 3:00 pm
A visit to the historic grade II* listed Tor Royal – a house built by Thomas Tyrwhitt between 1785 and 1793.
Tyrwhitt was also responsible for building Dartmoor Prison and the original Plymouth and Dartmoor railway. We will have a short talk on the history of the house by Justine Colton, who, together with her husband farms the land.
After a tea, we will also have a short talk by Joan Jones on her memories of life as a JP in Tavistock. Afterwards, weather permitting, there will be an opportunity for a self-guided walk up to the Crock of Gold, a cairn and cist not far from the so-called Conchies Road.
Meet at Tor Royal Farm (PL20 6SL) at 15:00.
Booking is required via the organiser – details below.
