Visit to Westaway Sails, Ivybridge (IA Section)
Thu. 25 January 2024 at 11:00 am
This British company of sailmakers was established in 1971 and has over 40 years’ experience in producing high quality sails for racing sails, cruising spinnakers and chutes. Sails manufactured in-house by Westaway have completed numerous circumnavigations and have been used by Britain’s leading sailors including Sir Chay Blyth, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, Lisa Clayton and Ellen MacArthur.
Considerations of space mean that no more than ten at a time can be shown around the sail loft, so registrations will be accepted for ten visitors at 11am and a second group of ten at 12 noon.
Limited numbers will mean that preference in registration will be given to Devonshire Association members, for whom there will be a charge of £3 per person.
Registration, including a telephone number, is required with the Organiser, details below.
Westaway Sails is on a congested industrial estate with no easy parking. Please follow the directions below carefully.
The sail loft is in Ermbridge Works Industrial Estate, Ermington Road, Ivybridge, just south of the A38 dual carriageway.
Approaching from the East, e.g. Exeter, Torbay, turn off the dual carriageway at the “Westover” junction onto the B3123, signposted Ivybridge. At the bottom of the slip road, turn right, signposted Westover Industrial Estate.
Almost immediately you are likely to come across parked cars on the right-hand side of the road. You are close to the sail loft, so park where you can. Parking is very tight at the loft. Either in the car or on foot, turn into the Estate on the right.
Approaching from the Plymouth direction, turn off the dual carriageway at the junction for Ivybridge, directing you onto the B3213. Keep in the outside lane on the slip road. At the top of the slip road, you must turn left, turn 180 degrees around a roundabout and go across the dual carriageway. Once across the dual carriageway, turn first left, signposted Westover and Ermbridge Works Industrial Estates. The sail loft is a few hundred yards down the road on the left in Ermbridge Works Industrial Estate. Parking on the road will be on the left-hand side. Park where you can.
Please do not park on other business’s sites in the Industrial Estate. The sail loft is the first building on the right.
