I recently came across a disused railway line on a walk from Tipton St John to Sidmouth. This made me particularly curious to discover what route the branch line took when crossing the B3176 and the A3052.

I’ve looked for ordnance survey maps for the fifties and sixties, but they seem very difficult to find.
If anyone has information regarding this branch line, I would very much appreciate your help.

    Hi Sharpe,

I’ve moved your enquiry to the main Devon forum for visibility (I think you are probably the only one looking at the East Devon Forum!).

In case you haven’t come across it, the Wikipedia article at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sidmouth_Railway contains quite a bit of information about the line and also includes references to specialist works.
