Sometimes a gentle breeze parts the mists of time to give a glimpse of life in the medieval era. Many southwest folk stories tell of the ‘moorman’, with alternative spelling variants.

The BBC’s recent study of surnames relates to those based upon a trade activity, Fletcher, Smith, or location Forcey, Lancaster, even Morocco!

Other studies show geographic prevalence of surname locations. The Moorman Tithe Map history.pdf file, raises questions on woodland and estate naming.
Can you help blow the mists of time away?
