Managing the UNESCO Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site

2026 marks the 25th anniversary of UNESCO’s inscription of the East Devon and Dorset Coast as a World Heritage Site in 2021. Commonly known as the Jurassic Coast, this spectacular 150km of coastline was the first WHS in England to be recognised by UNESCO for its natural environment (rather than historic heritage) significance. It bears witness to over 185 million years of geological time.

In this recorded presentation (hosted on YouTube) Sam Scriven, Principal Officer for World Heritage at Dorset Council gives a fascinating insight into this the UK’s only natural World Heritage Site.
