Resolution for AGM 1 June 2019

The Devonshire Association
Annual General Meeting
1 June 2019

Rule 61 requires that a rule may be changed only by the approval of a two-thirds majority of Members present at a General Meeting. Under Rule 22 a quorum at a General Meeting of the Association is 50 Members.

Resolution to alter Rule 18 proposed by the Executive Committee

Rule 18 states:-

The annual subscription shall be due on 1st January; and a member of any category whose full subscription is more than one year in arrears may be regarded as having resigned at the end of the last year for which a full subscription has been received.

The rule discourages members from joining in the second half of the year, as membership runs only until 1 January next. It also does not fit readily with our new membership administration system, WebCollect.

The Executive Committee propose amendment of Rule 18 to enable new members to benefit from a full twelve months’ membership from the date they join. Under the revised rule, renewal would fall due on the anniversary of joining.

If approved at today’s meeting, the revised Rule 18 would read:-

Renewal of annual subscriptions shall be due on 1st January, or for members joining after 1st January 2019, on the anniversary of joining the Association; and a member of any category whose full subscription is more than one year in arrears may be regarded as having resigned at the end of the twelve month period for which a full subscription has been received.
